The 100 Day Reality Challenge

Today I’m excited! Today is the first day I have had to work and fulfill my intention to sit down and write for 30 minutes every day. And you know what . . . work wasn’t such a drag knowing I would be heading home to hit the keyboard. I haven’t been this eager and excited about writing since I was writing a newsletter on a regular basis. Only now I’m dedicated to writing every day—with no specific topic in mind—with a childlike giddiness about what’s going to come out of me. Sure I will have days when I write intentionally about one particular topic—I will dedicate days for the book, maybe a few new newsletters, etc—but mainly I will allow myself the freedom to see where the Muse takes me. I will allow myself to be a vessel for the universe to speak through. I will finally get out of my own way and just write.

I’m reading a new writing book by Mary Pipher—it’s Writing to Change the World. She suggests, “Ordinary people can and do change the world every day. Yet even as I write, I hear a despairing voice inside me whisper that right now car bombs and nuclear weapons seem more powerful than words, that few people read serious writing, and that even those readers who do seem to read only to reinforce their established beliefs. Some days, I have to argue with myself for a long while before the urge to connect in me wins and sends me off to work.” This seems so true for me lately. I remember being in the dumps this past year saying to myself, “What’s the point?” I found myself real cynical at times thinking that no matter what I say or write, I won’t make any difference. Wow, it’s crazy how far off track we can get sometimes. I have never read anything by Mary Pipher before. To be honest, I have never heard of her but I was instantly intrigued when I saw the title of the book. I have read most all of the popular books on writing so finding a new one I haven’t read was a nice surprise.

Katie and I made a last minute decision to go see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button the other day. Truthfully, I was disappointed that it wasn’t a little more entertaining. I suggested to Katie that they really should have named the movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Boring! I didn’t know anything about the movie other than Brad Pitt was in it and he grew from old to young. If the movie wasn’t almost 3 hours long it probably would have been better but the ol’ ass starts to go numb shortly after the second hour. The thing that really impressed me about the movie, though, was Benjamin’s curiosity about life. His simple-mindedness and calm demeanor allowed everyone around him to open up to him and share their story with him. It’s not a movie I would recommend except to the diehard Pitt fans. Otherwise, save your money (and your ass)!

Well fellow co-creators, I’m really looking forward to our journey together over the next 100 days. I can’t wait to hear all of the success stories on April 24th! Go get em!!
