I have a hard time letting go of things. Right now I am sorting out my books. I have so many wonderful books. My husband and I are clearing out to make way for the new. I have so many books I haven't even read. Then there are my all time favorites. I ran into Sid Simon on Values Clarification and another called Personalizing Education Values Clarification and Beyond by Leland and Mary Howe. It as published in 1975 only I think we can use it today. So many of our values are changing and have changed--many for the better. It is always hard to break away from traditional values. And if they don't work why hang on to them?
My father, the Rabbi, wanted me to hold on to being Kosher. As I grew older I didn't see that as being important to me and the way I observed being Jewish. There are many who would judge me. I would rather not be judged by others opinions. I learned over the years that I needed to do what was right for me at the same time respecting the rights of others. I think that's what President Obama is wanting to do in his relationships with some of our "enemies".
Then there are the viewpoints about legalizing marijuana. I am not sure that I think that is a good thing because I choose not to smoke even cigarettes because it's bad for my health. However, I still don't think that a lot of people who are in prison for smoking mariljuana need to be there. I believe they could use some sort of therapy that would teach them that they don't need to smoke to enjoy life.
While I'm on my soap box I also would like to add that we need to teach parents how to raise children who are loving and caring. We need to teach them how to handle anger, especially. That was a big one for me to learn. Oh well, I've said enough for today.Love and Light Gramma Shirah
