Hello! My name is Krysten also known as Isisoakmoss here on the 100 day challange. Recently my youngest child age 26 months has been diagnosed with having autisum. He is a 95 out of 180 on the scale provided on the generation rescue site that was created by D.A.N. Doctors. The higher you score the worse off you are. He has also taken the test given by the Cleveland board of mental retardation and mental delays. He scored with significat delays across the board. He has an appointment july30 with a nuerological doctor to have an offical diagnosis.
As a mother i take this as a challenge not a set back. It is a chance to learn and make a change in the lives of not only myself and my child but all the people affected by this. So my son learns differently then a typical child. Thats fine. The thing is we need to step inside of his world and, find out how he learns. This, along with Bio-medical interventions and therapy in the areas of speech, ocupational for small motor or small muscle movements and multi-sensory.
One of the big problems however is autisum and the things used to treat it are not covered by insurance. I have to pay out of pocket for everything even some medical visits that are not concidered life saving or a nessecity. For example his diet must be changed completely. Lots of organic foods and, no dairy, glutin, wheat, corn, soy, and some other things are aloud because they are poision to his little body. He also will be needing many different vitamins and minerals that are made for autistic brains and bodies that cost anywhere from $60-$80-$100 dollars a bottle. We are now completely changeing our home around to keep it safe due to him being unaware of danger. His bedroom needs a complete makeover if you will. I have to create a multi-sensory enviroment for him as well as a seperat sleeping area that keeps him safe from falling out of bed, as well as climbing all over dressers or shelving. Thankfully, I have an extra floor of my house that has been finished and, it has two big rooms. I was thinking of turning the bigger room into his multi-sensory play and learning therapy room. Then, turn his bedroom into what it is a safe place with a safe bed close to the floor and, free of hard corners or materials. I have aquired a book called Abilitations special needs. It is a catalog of things for children of special needs like my son.So, it has all the saftey features that can make our life and, my sons life much easier and safer. However, for a bed alone that keeps him safe and also adds a theraputic level of comfort it is $2824.99 its a bed created by a comopany called Somatron. Anyway, mats and tactile floor and wall panels $848.59-$1,746.59. You get my drift that the things needed to make him safe and help him recover from this brain injury are way beyond exspensive and, being a single mother of four that is on disability, county welfare and, in school to become an Art Therapist has no "out of pocket" money. So, I had an idea. Many people are raising money now a days for everything. Why not have a fund raiser for my son? Then I thought can i do that? Yes, I can do this! Anything is possible. So my first idea was having a yard sale localy and sending out flyers that say something like" Raising money for autistic son". I would have picture of my him on the flyer and at the sale i could have proof of his diagnosis out for all to see along, with him being out so he can meet people and, the book to show people just how exspensive his sensory room is going to be along with is bed and other needs. I am an artist and photographer so i would create things to sell along with the yard sale. I would maybe take donations from people wishing to get rid of things and donate for the sale. I would give a recipt for a write off. Basicly I am asking for your help. Ideas what do you think i should do? I will take all suggestions. It could be ideas for other fund raisers. I also thought about setting up a donations account at a bank incase someone wished to donate directly with money to the bank. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks always Krysten Isisoakmoss!
