Today I am thankful for my job. The job that takes me away from my house and earns me a few dollars. I am thankful for it mostly because it brings me peace. I arrive there and immediately get a break from the daily grind. I know this sounds contrary to some work experiences, luckily my workplace is extrordinary. A tranquil setting, conservation land, forest, lake and a beautiful reconstructed 1400s Iroquoian village. Half my day is in the village, in Longhouses, teaching First Nations culture and history, and the other half hiking and teaching outdoors. Okay so I have 30 or so school children following me around all day...but really my mind is on my work and my environment and not spinning with the chaos of my day to day 'stuff'. Always a welcome period of calm in the flurry of family life. I am thankful for music. At the moment I have a basement full of teenagers playing
loud rock music in preparation for a 'gig' this evening. Music has brought them together and given them a positive focus, and I believe made them smarter, more peaceful people.
I am thankful for old friends. Threads that travel back through my life, friends who know
why I am who I am today. Friends who inspire me, and suprise me with their strength, friends who make me laugh just by the way they say hello.
Today I am thankful for strangers who unexpectedly help out, making my life just a tiny bit easier.
I think today, (or maybe it was yesterday) is Good Person day. Thanks to all the good people out there who have left me comments, usually
just exactly when I needed them.
