autumn peeks
there's that moment
when you know
summer's gone
a cold beer pressed
against your forehead
mowing lawn
gives way to
coffee in darkness
a late come dawn
nevermind the sunny days
alas the breeze tells me
summer's truly gone

I woke up this morning and went through the usual routine at home. As I was driving to work, the radio was announcing the news for the day. Here's what I heard: "mudslides killed hundreds of people," "wheelchair-bound man dies in house fire," "gunman shoots toll booth agent..." I turned the radio off. Not today. I'm a huge proponent of being plugged into the world and not living in a bubble, maybe even a little bit of a junkie for news, especially political. But today I just had to turn it all o…

We love New Orleans! I love the seafood and the atmosphere, and Scott loves the history and architecture. It all happened in a blink, but we enjoyed each others' company uninterrupted, except for some text messaging with Scott's friends. But he let's me be clever and I give him ideas of fun messages. We needed a trip away from our lives -- the dogs even -- just to get away. It's been too long! Now I have a week off work. Such an opportunity to plug into me, I guess.

I saw the movie Defiance finally. What spirit created by terrible circumstances! Belief, beyond belief. I can't say much more at this point. Moving film!

This is a really weird subject, but I think its interesting. It speaks to my relationship with Scott. Last night, I came home and Scott had gotten off work early and made a pork steak for my dinner. He hates them. In St. Louis, pork steaks are basically pork butt cut into steak form. It was delicious. But I got caught up in calling our DSL company for 2-3 hours to get our laptops working again.
Tonight, I thanked him. I asked him how he knew how to cook a porksteak picture-perfect. He told me o…

Big, big project done from work today. I feel like I can start to be myself again. Honestly, the event was done at 2:00, I was out of there by 2:45, and after I called Scott to say "It's over!" I was thinking of my CCOR friends. They have been a bit like traffic signals for me lately. I am so blessed the event I planned went very well and so glad it is over! The project has derailed my online activity, but not my Season 2!

It has been 16 years since my chosen candidate won the Oval Office. I'm okay with saying goodbye to Mr. Bush. But Mr. Obama, for whom I advocated above all Democrats, has his work cut out. Can all of you please help me in intentioning his success? Not because I need him to be personally successful, but because the country needs him to be successful. If I can rally with a Republican after 9/11, I think most rational people can rally for a Democrat during these demanding times. May Goodness shine…

I'm plugged into CNN. I get breaking news when it happens. When I was at work, I got a message about the plane in New York going down. I read it to a friend and I noticed my voice crack when I said, "I hope they're okay," unfortunately 'knowing' they were not. It never turns out like it did. There is a Goodness in the Universe we cannot understand. Some call it God and I suppose I do too. Thank God. Thank God for the result. Thank you God.

Moods 'spread like ripples through friends' say scientists: Bad moods are contagious and can spread through friends and family across hundreds of miles, according to new research.

I have mentioned on a couple occasions that Scott and I have, quite unexpectedly, started a new business. We started the Challenge on Oct 1 and the new business concept on Nov 1. In this short time, our living room has been transformed into a warehouse of raw materials, research, and packaging. We're in it to win it and having so much fun.
Tonight, at the family Christmas Eve function, I introduced our company concept and gave my mother and sister gift baskets of our new products. They were bot…

Every year, a friend of mine hosts an open house at her home that supports local charities. She provides all the food and beverages. In return, she asks all attendees to support her two chosen charities in some way. This is in lieu of any gift exchanges among friends. She typically receives 50% in goods and 50% in monetary contributions. In discussing, I inquired about "needy family" charities in St. Louis. Here, our local newspaper identifies 100 families in need of specifics.
Then, I had a th…

My Intentions are still my intentions, but they have been modified by the passions that this Challenge has stirred in me and Scott. We still want to have kids, but we have been sidetracked again. Hopefully not for long. We are starting another business, which has taken a lot of our time. But I intend on "intending" again for the next 100 Day Challenge, especially since this Challenge has stirred so much in Scott and I that I guess we thought was dormant or left in the past. We are so creative an…

...but this Challenge has kicked my butt in terms of, well, human achievement. It's about Me right now. And that's okay. I want to be the best Me. It is starting to seem natual to ask things of myself and the Universe. A lot of the BS has melted away. I can talk of the psychological, as well as physiological changes. They are real for me. Advice: Set your intentions, then strive to meet them, independent of the Universe. I feel like I am moving faster than the Universe right now and I am confide…

Happy Birthday to my partner Scott! While he is creative, difficult, loving, and complicated like me, I could not imagine life without him. Our intentions have been modified by the Challenge and we are back to where we were 10+ years ago in the best sense because we are proceeding to start another business. I have an MBA now, which I hope will serve us well in this endeavor. And we have not abandoned adoption whatsoever. I think this level of empowerment can only serve to further our joint inten…

I needed to put down into one place a few comments I have made to others on the CCOR site that were learning experiences for me as I wrote them. This 'blog' is entirely for my benefit to recall those moments and apprehend them on a more regular basis. Thanks for your patience with this blog. Courage. Here they are:

I went to a business conference this weekend and the keynote speaker is an expert in customer service. She claimed that average American adults smile only 15 times a day. That seems pretty sad to me. She encouraged those at the conference to force themselves to 'smile' by clenching a pen in your mouth. This action alone apparently releases the same endorphins that a smile releases. But I have always known this. I have always called it Smile Therapy. If you make yourself smile, things are not qui…
