Did I make it to Whitstable - 55 km cycle adventure from phil bradburn on Vimeo.
Watch this and see the lovely Kent countryside and the lovely towns of Faversham and Whitstable.
This is a story of friendship, conquering challenges, and having fun on the road.
Doing this challenge was one of my intentions for this season. Continue

Apparently, owners of predatory animals have now started lying in wait for me. Today I spent 25 minutes waiting for someone with a dog to move from their position at the corner of the only road into the village so that I could travel the last 200 yards home. I am not pleased. I saw an ad on the telly the other day for a charity which rehomes dogs. I think I should get in touch and ask if they can rehome all the local dogs as far away from me as possible. There are plenty of islands off the coast… Continue

Well, this is something new. I am now a pioneer of simultaneous seasonality! A new set of intentions, and 100 days to cram it all in before it all falls apart for yuletide.
I'll really get cracking tomorrow, but today I've figured out what I want to do. Season 1 (still in progress) has been frustrating in some ways but hugely successful in others. A few intentions are carried forward, in particular writing my second website, for which I want to do 100 articles within the first 50 days. A relate… Continue
With just 12 more days to go on season 1, unfortunately there's no way I'm going to achieve ALL of my intentions, but going through them, I feel like I've done quite well on some of them, especially the health and fitness goals, all of which I have achieved. And I've laid the groundwork for those goals I haven't quite achieved yet.
Anyway, today I cycled 23 miles and I went to the library where, unknown to me, there was a book waiting to be picked up. I'm getting a bit of a backlog on my readin… Continue

I did manage to get my blood pressure checked, but only after a wild goose chase. I went to the location listed on the Brlood Pressure Association website, at the time listed, only to find that the information was, quite simply, wrong. They'd never even heard of the Know Your Numbers campaign. So I ended up going right across town to the pharmacy where I had my blood pressure checked before. Clearly the woman there didn't recognise me, but anyway I did eventually get it checked and it's fine. It… Continue

Bought some tapes today. Tapes are great. But anyway... I did get some good cycling in, and I wrote a bit but not as much as I would have liked, and I read a bit but not as much as I would have liked either.
If I hadn't had that pause in the middle of my season, today would have been day 1 of season 2. I wasn't joking about overlapping seasons: to get season 2 over before yuletide, I'll want to start it this week, quite likely on Thursday. Then I'll have a couple of weeks of mad frantic intense… Continue

Well, Sunday is rarely a productive day for me, but I suppose it was OK today. I did cycle about 11 miles, bringing me over 2000 miles cycled this year, and I hula hooped quite a bit too. I deliberately hula hoop from left to right because I find it harder and it takes more effort to keep it going. I've managed some brilliant recoveries after the hoop's dropped to my hips - and all while reading too! (Currently reading Michael Palin's diaries, an enormous hardback book that's quite difficult to… Continue

Today was amazing. I got up quite early and went for a cycle - 19 miles in total. Part way around I stopped at a friends place for a glass of water and a coffee. Was fun catching up and I was really pleased that I am able to cycle there. Because all of the way there - it is uphill!!!
I also did a whole load of workout and yoga, and abs exercises. I did some of those on the tv - was cool. I felt really relaxed after yoga.
I weighed in this morning at 14st 8lb! So. I have only 1lb before i get t… Continue

Right when I should be all excited, I'm flagging. You can probably tell by the fact that this is now the second time I've let the daily blogging slide. I seem to lack a bit of motivation at the moment.
Still, some positive stuff: I went running yesterday, 2 miles in 14:50, pretty decent for me. I'm not sure it's practical to commit to training properly again, so I'm kind of in a maintenance phase. But I definitely AM maintaining my running level - it's not slipping away, anyway.
I've also done… Continue

I didn't feel like doing a blog last night, so now I'm desperately trying to remember what I did yesterday. I was certainly working up to a major rant about Byron Katie, which will emerge at some point. I went out cycling and managed not to overeat for most of the day before ruining it with a bedtime splurge because I was so depressed at the existence of (1) Byron Katie, and (2) dogs. I also missed the half-price insertion day on eBay UK. Pathetic!
Today's to-do list includes some writing I sho… Continue

Hmmm... well, I did intend to go into town to get some videotapes today (I have a digital hard disc recorder, but I want videotapes for keeping stuff), and I went into town and got some videotapes, but it was a big of a slog, what with having to take detours to avoid dogs. The good thing is that I got a lot of useful exercise. But on the whole I would rather not have had to take those detours because it took ages, AND because I was out so long, I got caught in the rain and I wasn't dressed for r… Continue
So, this morning I went for a cycle. All the better since it was raining and I was unsure as to whether I would be put off. Thankfully my resolve held out and I ventured out in the rain.
I got up super early and did 30 mins or so of yoga and muscle exercises and some step on the wii. I felt great having done an hour of workout this morning. See the screenshot from the wii-fit this morning.

OK, quickly... I lost one pound this week, it's not amazing progress but it's still a loss and I'm pleased with that. I did about 13 miles on the bike today, and I did about an hour's writing - not on the thing I intended, which I really want to sort out this week, but hey, it's all good.
Sliding into the last section of my 100 day challenge, I need to really pick up on a few things now - get back to my "lights out by midnight" intention, meditate more regularly, and try to de-clutter a bit. It… Continue
A good writing day! I did fix up some of the things I wanted to do to my site, and tomorrow should see the rest pretty much done. Apart from that, a good hour's cycling (14 and a bit miles!) must have had an effect on my calories in/out balance. That, and a bit of hula hooping. I'm not sure there's much else to say tonight, but it feels like I'm getting back into my stride with my intentions. Continue
I got up this morning and the weather was looking a little iffy. I decided to go anyway for my cycle. I am pleased that I did because it was very quiet out and it was so lovely cycling around. I did around 15 miles. That was quite a lot of calories burned. I weighed in at 14st 11lb. I am currently losing 4-5 pounds of weight a week. I am now considering going for 14st 0lb. I know that I can do it. I will go there in the next 28 days!!

Benn getting a bit behind on my blogging, and now find that very little actually stands out from yesterday anyway. I did have to replace the battery in my heart rate monitor and it was so fiddly it took a whole hour. Other than that, I decided to treat myself to an ice cream, deliberately saved the calories and waited for the ice cream van... and it never came. And I was getting hungry so ended up consuming more calories than I really should have of other stuff. Oh well.
As for today, I was out… Continue

The best-laid plans o' mice an' men gang aft a-gley, as our national poet Rabbie Burns once wrote. Spot on, fella. Today I made the mistake of believing the weather forecast and by way of getting used to my new slim-ish image I thought it would be a good idea to make an effort with my appearance and wear a really smart waistcoat, shirt tucked in (when was the last time I wore a shirt like that? Probably my gran's funeral in 2000. Speaking of which, even my funeral trousers - the formal ones I ke… Continue
There's not enough hours in the day! I really wanted to get on with writing this month, and what with family stuff I just haven't had the time to fit everything in. I have had some achievements in other areas, particularly with my fitness goals, but the writing is just not happening right now. I have a list of things I want to do next week and it'll be quite a push to fit everything in, but I feel like I've got a lot of ground to make up.
Still, good stuff: did some yoga again today, actually m… Continue
Really, I very much doubt anyone else has ever read "The Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde" from beginning to end while simultaneously hula hooping. An achievement which will no doubt be celebrated for generations to come. Anyway, if you want to hone your simultaneous hula hooping / paperback reading skills, it's a good book to do it with as it's quite short. I polished it off in about an hour. While hula hooping. Which I personally think adds to the experience.
Also went cycling, did s… Continue

Did a good bit of cycling today and ended up in a town I don't visit all that often, where I found a copy of "Loving What Is" by Byron Katie in a charity shop. I can't say I'm hugely impressed with what I've read so far. Reading some of the dialogues in the book, I noticed that BK was leading her clients to conclusions that didn't really follow, and in one case in particular I found her approach utterly reprehensible.
Other than that, I've hula hooped a bit and written a bit and done some abdom… Continue
