Greetings Lilou:
Hyde Park is a wonderful place in London because it is such a large park with so many varied moods. Some of it is wild with high grass fields and trees. Another part is formal gardens with roses and "properly" trimmed hedges. At another corner is an area where people (anyone, at anytime, on any thing ) can get up and voice their opinion to all in earshot of listening. Out the other way is Kensington palace (Diana). Several lakes and ponds occupy the center of the park, each as diverse in feeling as the park itself. Occasionally they have huge concerts there (e.g. the Proms ; Live aid ; or other city or charity sponsored events) ... but most weekends in the summer there is at least a band of some sort playing. I always felt safe walking in this park: many families, dogs on leashes, young lovers, runners, and just folk out for a stroll. You can use the many paths thru the park to get to where you are going : Notting Hill Area , Albert Hall, the Museum and Science and History Buildings or down to the shopping areas.
Whatever you are looking for in a park ... keep walking and looking and this park will soon reveal itself to you.

Hi Lilou,

I love parks, Primrose Hill and Parliament Hill (part of Hampstead Heath park) are my favourite. from both you have a wonderful view across London.
I also like little coffee shops around shoreditch and walking along south bank (river Thames). I've been living in London for almost 8 years and there are still lots and lots of places to discover, its amazing.

Richmond Park has been my lifetime favourite. It is a huge park that stretches to Roehampton in SW15, Sheen, Ham, Kingston and of course - Richmond, Surrey!

Whenever I go there I can feel the huge presence of the 'Spirit of Richmond Park'. I go there in happy times and have been in tough times and it always lifts me and makes me feel that anything is possible - even if it's felt hopeless just beforehand!

The deer are great (there used to be sheep years ago too). Lots of wooded areas and Isabella Plantation is a beautiful cultivated garden within the park - especially when the rhododendrons are in bloom.

The view from the hill cafe in Pembroke Lodge is brill too.

Kew Gardens is another favourite - worth getting an annual season ticket as it works out so much cheaper. If you buy a day ticket you can get it refunded when you get the annual. I always feel 'safe' there. And much as I adore dogs they are not allowed so you can sit on the grass and picnic anywhere!!

Regent's Park is great too - a lunch-time sanctuary when I used to work up that way. Had a major a-ha in a thunderstorm there!
