Are you stuck??

Hello! A short update on my nanowrimo challenge. It's my 4th day and yesterday I felt a bit stuck and not really into the mood to write so I wrote something a bit off track. I am sure that I will do a lot of cut and paste after this month but that should not be my worry at the moment. Editing is for December or whenever you feel ready to do so.
Today I was a bit more productive but I still need a few more words and then I'm done for today. I had this wonderful thought.

Remember when you were at school and had to take an exam. There was this tricky question and you just didn't know how to answer it but but then you thought if I do write something as an answer anything at all it will still count.

The teacher can then decide if he gives you a point or not or just half the point BECAUSE you have written somthing. See the same goes for NaNoWriMo. If you do write something you can later decide if this can be used for sth. your story at the end of this month or not but if you haven't written anything at all then you can't do it. Does that make sense? So each time you feel blocked just tell yourself "I'm going to write something anything, even if this currently does not have anything to do with my story. I can delete it later after this month. If I have something written then I can also choose if I'm going to keep some of the paragraphs or not." :))

Well, I hope that makes somehow sense. I'm quite into it and feel already a bit scatter-brained but it's fun. :)) so keep writing!

Have a great day

Even if you aren't ready you can start for fun

Clarissa, try this: for 30 minutes (set a timer), write the story you want to write, no holding back, no editing, no "is this too close to the knuckle" thoughts. After 30 minutes see if you want to continue. Remember that in the editing process, a lot will change so the scene may not be recognisable...and a lot of people don't realise their part in situations, especially when it makes them look bad!! but you know what? I think you know already the story you want to write, the discomfort is cos you're not. So do, just for 30 minutes.

Most fiction is at least semi-autobiographical, because we write what we know. I saw an author interviewed who said that she 'chopped up' characters to make them a little bit of a lot of people, and situations the same, and so many people said 'is that about me?'...but when she based her characters on one person, they didn't recognise themselves at all! That made me laugh!

Anyway, hope that helps - if not, let me know and I'll think of some advice when I'm not just about to go to bed! Lol.

Lol Donna, you are ahead ;) Yeah include some music, you know you can do whatever you want during that month :)))

Clarissa I know that writing your own story - your life story might be a daunting task and scary at the same time. If you feel this is what you wanted to write then do it. start a new page in your novel and write about yourself and the stories you want to share and don't worry what others might think, it's YOUR story, your life and how you saw it and experienced it from your point of view.

I think you shoud give it a try without much prejudice and fear, just try it. you can make chapters for each topic you wan to write about e.g. from your life and each day from the remaining days /weeks that we have left during nanowrimo you can write each day about a new topic, what do you say to that?

I think it sounds exciting and you should definitely try it. I wrote sth autobiographically too and never finished but it's not bad what I have, you can always work on what you have written.

hope that helps,

xoxo Sandra

I'm back to watching my soap opera *lol* haha

Hey Ladies! I am sooooo dragging my butt this week! Okay, having the flu hasn't helped. But I feel bored with my story now, and like I'm not writing the "real story" that I want to write. I feel I should be writing more biographically, but it is daunting.

I have had a mostly unhappy life and am trying to make sense of many things which counselling hasn't helped me even touch on. The novel felt cathartic at first but now it is just some story I'm writing. I feel like the real story is my life, but I am SO fearful of writing about people that I know and love (even if they have hurt me a lot).

Okay, okay, I know that my story may not ever get published, but I feel like I have many things to say about life, relationships, illnesses, addictions, etc. And it feels inauthentic to be writing it as "fiction." But writing about my past is just so scary....

Any advice????? ;)

That makes me feel better! ;-) I can now let go and not do any today, so thank you! I am procrastinating by listening to Robbie Williams on Radio 1 from yesterday! I'll have to get a bit of music into my novel soon. Might see how many lyrics I can get in there - ooh, that would be fun. Hmm....I feel this may be another distraction! Oh well! x

Lol - Sandra, I know exactly how you feel. I keep reminding myself that my editor has the month of November off! And that no one is perfect instantly and writing a novel is a long process. I am seeing this month as a great bit of practice, to learn how to write a novel, to learn my strengths (dialogue...lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of dialogue!) and my weaknesses (anything other than dialogue! Lol) I am a little bit behind now, I'm on about 17000 words...hoping to get some time over the weekend to catch up with myself! xx

Wow you all are doing so well. congratulations, I'm procastinating for a few days now and I just don't feel like writing I know that I will probably not use my story it's sucks everywhere lol and just don't feel motivated to continue. I will try write sth tonight anything even if it has nothing to do with my story just for the sack of the word count lol

Yay to everyone here for doing their best!!! Donna are you at 11,000? Awesome! And Tamara-Hello!!!! You go girl!

I am doing 2 hours in the mornings and an hour or so at night. Many of my "words" are ideas I have for the plot down the road. The story is going along but there are mini-stories that I add here and there, which "should" fit into the plot at some point. I will worry about how to bring them together late. ;)

I wrote a lot this weekend, got a huge jump on Friday when my DH took our son out for the day on my hubby's birthday. My throat was too sore and I was zonked, so stayed home and wrote like crazy. But now I am slowing down, of course, I'm actually a little stuck now. ;(

Wow Clarissa 14000 words! Woohoo! Considering your distractions in the shape of illness and birthdays, that's AWESOME! The wheels are slightly falling off my writing wagon! Lol. got a really busy week and don't know when I'm going to get a chance to write :-( But we shall see. x
