Great, I'm glad it gave you a new way of seeing the subject. I don't know why it became so important in Christianity to stress that Christ was absolutely a real man. Maybe he was, maybe he wasn't... the power of his message is what's important, and I think the fact that he fits into a larger context of resurrected gods offering a path of rebirth makes gives his example even more legitimacy, not less...

I like your take on this. I turned my back almost completely on christianity because of the manipulations of the truth a long long time ago. This gives me a fresh way of looking at it though. I jumped to the conclusion that the church just stole and used all of the old ways to manipulate the masses and make their way of being and worshiping more palatable. I never really considered that Christ fell into a category that made it easier for the people themselves, over time, to weave stories that were closer to the mythological figures. Its very true though and actually even more probable that at least in part it occured that way. This is interesting and I have to admit that I have searched and searched for a way of allowing that energy back into my life since it was such a huge part of my childhood. I miss the magic of believing in something so strongly~~I guess alot like Santa Clause, I miss him too hahah~~ and as a result I may have thrown the baby out with the bathwater. Well, thanks for sharing your train of thought on this. I like new thoughts as the old ones become quite boring!! LOL

Hi Carrie...
I think the interesting thing about life is that there are 2 approaches - the scientific approach, and the magical/mythological one. Both are valid, and not necessarily mutually exclusive. They both have their areas of 'domination'... the world of science is perfect for quantifying material/physical states; while the magical approach works best in areas of the soul and the arts.
Therefore, I think one cannot ever say what is the 'truth' about Christ and Mary Magdalene is. I think his story is more a case of the man Jesus fitting an already existing archetypal pattern, and then a lot of things were projected onto him and the story, and it evolved over the years. Then, obviously, institutions - for political reasons - tried to impose their visions and dogmas. There is no doubt that very close parallels exist between the Christ story, and those of gods of rebirth - Osiris, Dionysos, and especially Mithras (the most popular cult at the end of the Roman Empire).
So, I don't think there is a 'right' story. Magic allows us to develop a personal connection with the archetypes, and they feed us in a way that suits our souls.
Christ therefore is the archetype of compassion and rebirth, while Mart Magdalene of the companion, and the initiatrix, while the Virgin Mary represents the feminine aspect in its purest and most mystical. Many criticise the figure of the Virgin, saying she creates impossible models for women... I don't believe archetypes need necessarily always reflect life itself... that is why there are many of them; they can fit the moods and help in the situations we may be passing through.

Daniel you have really delved into this study hmm? I am not this well versed. I know the story of Persephone but I am not connecting the dots with Mary Magdalene. I didn't realize that she (Persephone's mother) was an initiatrix. I just knew of the story of the 6 mths under ground and the six mths in light. I saw that story on many levels though..just not what you mentioned. Interesting. Forgive me..its been a long long while since I touched on the archetypes. I stopped because at that time I was rabid for knowledge and I was self studying things at such a rapid pace that I realized that I was a little crazy with it. There was no stillness and no depth to what I was learning. One God led to the next God/ess and one story into the next with no focus for me. I actually started with the Norse Gods and reading runes and from there...Holy Cow there is no end to it.
So do you believe that MM was real and the lover/consort of Christ or do you feel she became part of the story as time went on. I am often conflicted over all of the stories of Christ. I just don't know where truth ends and mythology begins with them. There are to many parallels such as the birth of the son vs. the birth of the Sun...etc....I guess I just don't trust what has been tampered with...

Thanks for that... and yes, I'm sure the appreciation of the energies of the goddesses, the feminine energy in general, is being honoured more...
It is interesting, for example, how within esoteric Christianity, Mary Madgalene is being seen in a new light, and as an archetype, may even be a remnant of an ancient Israelite initiator goddess... thus as a woman, she is a mother and lover, but as a goddess, helps the resurrection of Christ. Demeter/Ceres has the same role in Greek religion, specifically as the mother of Persephone, and the initiatrix, par excellence (in the Eleusinian Mysteries). The High Priestess in the Tarot is a bit like this too...

Hey everyone,Sorry it took a while to get back here and answer this Daniel.
Saraswati is, well to me, a mother feeling Goddess but she is the goddess of the arts and also students. So she kind of covers all of the things I am in one swoop lol. I think women in particular really need to relate to the archetypes to get back to the powerful beings that we are. I think that is happening though. I feel like there is a rebalancing going on in the world and hopefully it will restore us and in turn our planet back to a place of balance. Hopefully!!!

Great... thank you for joining the group... maybe you'd like to share with us what Saraswati means to you, in terms of manifesting and making your own life richer...

What I love about all mythology is that it is totally inclusive, and a god or goddess in one religion corresponds to divinities in others. What's very interesting is that ancient Athens had some Hindu temples, and ancient Rome had temples from just about all religions of the time. Isis, an Egyptian goddess, was the most popular divinity in the Greek and Roman work, and her symbolism later became that of the Virgin Mary... Everything is so interconnected...

My favorite is the Goddess Saraswati. I like the Hingu Gods and Goddesses. I love that they have have so much symbolism in every last little minute detail.
I read from Mother Peace which is also so strong on archetypes. So much strong feminine energy....Someday I will marry all these bits of knowledge and it will all mesh into who I am lol...One big collage!!!!
