Less than a month left of school and the kids are going nutty! I feel like I am doing more lecturing than teaching...and struggling with finding a way to stay positive with the kids. I teach music and my basic philosophy is to keep it fun so they learn to love it and move on to other musical experiences in middle and high school. Any ideas on how to keep the atmosphere positive??

Iam so excited to join this group. I worker in a therapeutic preschool serving abused and neglected children ages 3-5 and I honestly consider it an honor to serve these little beings and fan the spark of divinity within them and I am always looking for ways to enhancemy abilities to serve them--I think I have latched on to a keeper here! So Thank you for being!!!

Happy New You! This is a great time of the year to focus on what worked and what didn't work in the past year to bring forward some good intentions for the coming year. Love Gramma SHirah

Well school is back in session and back to the books, let me know how everyone one is doing. I started the school year off with substitute teaching. I think it about time I obtain my certification and have my own classroom. Substituting is quite difficult when you have a different school, class and students each day.
Hope all goes well

I use an approved curriculum called, "Whispering Shadows". It is magnificent. It doesn't teach the philosophy of LOA as such, which can be highly charged and controversia( public school), but it teaches all about how the brain works and how to improve self talk. It is a great way to approach the issue of empowering children to use their minds. Teachers love it because the cartoon characters (for elementary) have the dark thinking, clear thinking and star thinking. Each shadow has a challenge sheet which teachers can use to help children challenge their dark thoughts, and transform them into empowerment.
I also do "goal setting" and "wish boards" as part of social and emotional skills. It really helps kids gain positive focus.
Gratitude journals is also a part of some lessons.

Parents are always kids first teachers whether they home school or not. Sometimes homeschooled kids learn things that aren't taught in the classroom, and sometimes there are skills taught in the classroom that can't be taught at home. Love Gramma Shirah

Now that school is out this is a great time to keep up the journaling. I wish I had a site for kids to blog me as Gramma Shirah. Then they could practice their writing skills as well. I taught spelling using the computer keyboard to help them memorize where the letters are as they spell them. That is a kinesthetic method, touch, feel and say as you spell. Love Gramma shirah
