The 100 Day Reality Challenge

Daniel Holmes

How do I get over my fear - I want to start my video cam and record!

My fear is getting in the way - I really need to start my 100 day challenge, the feeling of looking stupid scares me and holding back. I need some help from everyone, I believe I have a lot to say and many goals I wish to share and manifest in my life.

Hi Daniel.

Doing the 'First' video always seems to be quite a daunting task. I can assure you that both Rick and I where in EXACTLY the same position as you when we started (and now look at us... we cant stop ourselves...hehe).

I think the best advice we can give is litterally to just set up your webcam and 'imagine' that you're talking with a real person.

Sometimes people jump straight in and declare their goals and then log their progress with more video updates. Other times people just use the webcam to do video logs and talk about whatever they want.

A good way to do it is to find a video to repond to or use the video to comment on someones written blog.

Ultimately, It DOES get easier when you start doing it. It really does...

If you want any more advice just message us and we'll help you out.

All the best
THG (Kev & Rick)

Oh bless your heart! Agree with Kev entirely - everyone has the same fear. My first ever video I think I did 8 takes until I was 'happy enough' with (but I could still have easily not posted it because it wasn't perfect - if you watch it, you'll probably see how nervous I was!

Here's some ideas to get you moving: do a 'pre-challenge' video to get you started (I did this and it helped); do a couple of videos that you don't post as practice; do a really short video - I can ramble on like a fool when I get going, so I try (and fail dismally!) to keep it short!!! Pick a co-creator that you like and do the video as if to them; do a video where you DELIBERATELY make a fool of yourself, then when you do a 'real' one, you can't look stupid!!!

hope something in here helps, and that you are making videos soon - let me know when you do!

I totally understand what you are saying - here's the thing, I'm a Virgo and we are known for being to picky and always try to hard to get things just right, or perfect in our eyes although nothing can ever be so! See how I'm struggling, I want make sure I have a better camera, how do I set up the location were I'll record my videos, what will I wear? Questions I keep going over in my head as to what can I say, I know I wish to take ownership and be more accountable to my wishes and to my goals, this is what I want to talk about, but putting it together in my head seems so daunting. As a Virgo, I want to plan things out in detail - I want to keep the mistakes to a minimum, etc.

Thanks for your support - plz keep it up, I'll keep the faith and look forward to more of your comments.

Regards, Daniel

Lol - I'm Sagitarian and we tend to jump in without thinking more! But I do have perfectionistic tendencies when I am not paying attention.

My advice for you specifically: Write down all your questions, answer them, script a video, record it. THEN do it in a more random way, unscripted and see which comes out better. Whatever you do, get recording!!! You could maybe do a 30 day pre-challenge video challenge, where you make a video (that you don't have to post) every day just to get yourself comfortable with different places and areas.

Ultimately though, if you want to do the challenge and do video blogs, there's only one way - dive right in!

I've seen videos here from people just out of bed, just out of the shower, the room they are in looked like a mess, the lighting was so bad they where in the dark, and so on.
And you know what, I can't remember a single one of them (I mean I can't remember who it was).
What I remember is what people say not what they look like or if they did a perfect video recording or not.
And frankly, I admire the people who don't seem to mind not looking at their best in front of the camera, it makes them more 'real'.

My advice: swollow that frog a.s.a.p. and be proud!!!

Check out Youtube...Look at the many ways that people tend to do vlogs. They do them from anywhere and ultimately 'keep it real'.

The key thing is to have fun with it. Try holding a camcorder in front of yourself and just talk about anything...record the whole thing...and then put it into your editor and cut and chip away anything you dont like. Often, once you get talking about something your interested in you'll get into the flow and it will all come together.

I know ! I felt the same way, too.
I said to myself, I am unsatisfied with my life right now.
So, trying on a new ATTITUDE might be the only thing that would CHANGE my life.
And in fact it's magic ! Combining an action to a thought creates reality.
So, whether your goal is to evolve, get out of your shell, help someone, I think it will wake up something in you.
My vibration has started to CHANGE after doing my first video.
I proved myself that I was wrong about being uninteresting!
Greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeets !!!

I had/have a lot of the same feeling but just do it and it will get easier and the fear will go away.

I am not even sure I let people view my first vidoe anymore but I remember fretting right up till midnight the first day of this 100 days. It came out dark, quiet an almost inaudible. I was shaking like a dog pooping razor blades. I just decided that I was gonna do it and did it. The folks here on this site are the most open minded folks you could manifest and we all talk about how addicted we have become to doing the videos now. Too bad I deleted the comments of encouragement I received you could read them to see the support I got. You can do it. Just go for it and you will find it is empowering. I will be looking in to see how you are too. We will not find fault, That is where you will regain the confidence you already own. Shine Friend Shine

I wish to thank all who have made replies here - wonderful advice and support. I've pretty much decided to do some practice video's and not upload yet, that way I can get more comfortable and overcome this fear. I will take the videos I make in practice and do a compilation when I'm ready to go live as my Day1 all together in one video.

I'll close this topic when I post my Day 1, till then it is open for anymore pointers!

Keep it up everyone - I wish all the best of luck and success! :)
